Sandy Skoglund

La galleria bresciana Paci Contemporary presenta l’intera produzione dell’artista americana Sandy Skoglund, partendo dai primi lavori degli anni Settanta. Fulcro della mostra è il suo ultimo ed inedito progetto, Winter, qui esposto in anteprima mondiale e frutto di una gestazione decennale. Questa nuova opera rappresenta l’ultimo tassello del ciclo dedicato alle “Quattro Stagioni (Four Seasons)”. Per la prima volta è stata ricreata negli spazi della galleria l’installazione originale da cui è stato tratto lo scatto, una spettacolare anteprima che conferma ancora una volta la straordinaria unicità di questa artista.
Dal 2004 infatti Sandy lavora ad una serie costituita da quattro paesaggi artificiali “The Four Seasons”, ciascuno riguardante le influenze psicologiche derivanti da ognuna delle stagioni. Dopo la Primavera, ritratta nell’opera Fresh Hybrid, Winter ne rappresenta la continuazione, proponendo una visione unica della stagione invernale, popolata da sculture di gufi e fiocchi di neve, denominati Eyeflakes.

This monograph presents the first systematic and complete examination of the career of the American artist Sandy Skoglund, from her debut in the early 1970s until the present day.
A leading member of the generation that developed the concept of staged photography, Skoglund’s artistic practice is characterized by her continued exploration of the relationships between sculpture, installation, and photography.
Her labor-intensive settings, which often present enigmatic scenes, are informed by her enduring study of familiar places and situations, as well as her upbringing in postwar America. This publication, edited by Germano Celant, reconstructs the span of Skoglund’s personal and creative life through an interweaving of biographical information and relevant historical research, and a lavish selection of the artist’s works and writings, thereby making it a new and unique contribution to the literature on the artist.
