Abstract

For the first time, this book covers the modelling career of Joan Whelan, the daughter of Albert Whelan and Catherine Heckel, born in New York, who arrived in Paris in 1952 and in Rome in 1954.
Beginning with her chance meeting with Hubert de Givenchy, for whom she wore the "Sabrina" dress designed for Audrey Hepburn, Joan worked for top couturiers and photographers in the French capital. In Italy she posed for Emilio Pucci, Simonetta, Fabiani, Capucci - her lifelong friends - and for many other designers. While in Rome she met Johnny Moncada and together they opened the most avant-garde photo studio in the capital.
