Abstract

Initially represented as being forced into an unmoving pose, voiceless and only full of a “mute sound,” the protagonists of Liu Ruowang’s world (b.1977, Janxian, China) are actually stirrers of consciences, inevitable alarm signals, the transience of man and of the World stirring them from their immobility of matter (the clanging of bronze, the sound of metal) that transmits the complexity of “being in the world” to us.

From tragedy and from traditional culture emerge the sounds and meanings of themes belonging to this sculptor, who uses the great epic respite of the past to drag us into an inescapable present.
