Trasformazioni e Coesistenze

Mercoledì 22 settembre, alle ore 18.30, nel Gymnasium di CAMERA – Centro Italiano per la Fotografia avrà luogo l’incontro con Walter Niedermayr (Bolzano, 1952), uno dei principali fotografi italiani attivi sullo scenario contemporaneo e autore della mostra Walter Niedermayr. Transformations, visitabile a CAMERA fino al 17 ottobre.

L’incontro verrà condotto dal direttore del centro torinese, Walter Guadagnini, e dal critico d’arte Stefano Chiodi che dialogheranno con l’artista altoatesino per mettere in risalto le varie declinazioni con le quali viene affrontata l’indagine della modificazione dello spazio, tema predominante nella ricerca artistica di Niedermayr. Una riflessione ormai più che ventennale che ha permesso all’artista di focalizzarsi su diversi soggetti, dando luogo a un’interpretazione degli stessi talvolta in chiave politica talvolta in accezione simbolica: dal paesaggio alpino agli interni delle architetture in costruzione, dalle infrastrutture fisiche che delineano lo spazio urbano a quelle immateriali che plasmano l’ambiente rurale e le sue comunità, dagli spazi museali a quelli clinici e scientifici.

This book covers the last twenty years of artistic research by one of the leading contemporary Italian photographers: Walter Niedermayr. Through the recurring themes of his work such as Alpine landscapes, architecture and the relationship between public and private spaces, the artist’s interest in investigating places not only from a geographical but also from a social point of view is highlighted.
Although in continuity with the legacy of the Italian photographic tradition, which views the landscape as the key to interpreting society, Niedermayr’s visual research is significant in terms of its ability to reinterpret this subject and renew it from both a conceptual and a formal point of view. For the South Tyrolean photographer, physical space today cannot be approached with an exclusively documentary intention, but as the pivot of a transformative relationship between ecology, architecture and society.
With around fifty large-format works, often presented in the formula of the diptych and triptych and characterized by low contrast and neutral shades, this project tells us about a simultaneity of human and non-human activities, which coexist and find an unstable balance in constant change.
