Il Museo Internazionale delle Ceramiche in Faenza dedica una grande personale all’artista spagnolo Miquel Barceló uno dei massimi protagonisti della scena contemporanea internazionale.
La mostra faentina, a cura di Irene Biolchini e Cécile Pocheau Lesteven, è la prima vera antologica in Italia dedicata alla sua produzione ceramica, dagli esordi ai giorni nostri, e vede nascere un progetto speciale realizzato dall’artista appositamente per il MIC di Faenza in dialogo con le opere della storia della ceramica esposte nel più grande museo al mondo dedicato a questo linguaggio.
Per il MIC di Faenza l’artista ha creato un’installazione in dialogo con la sezione dedicata alle ceramiche faentine. All’interno della sala l’artista ha posizionato le sue ceramiche, dai primi lavori in argilla della fine degli anni Novanta ai giorni nostri. Inoltre, in tributo alla storia del MIC, ha selezionato per affinità alcuni pezzi chiave della collezione, intervenendo all’interno delle vetrine in maniera mimetica, in un racconto autobiografico in cui l’elemento privato si mischia alla storia.

Miquel Barceló is one of the most interesting artists in activity. For over forty years, his poetics has embodied different languages such as painting, sculpture, graphics and publishing, in a great and very original artistic pathway. The exhibition in Faenza has been achieved through a dialogue between the artist and the MIC collection, unique in the world, which houses artefacts dating back to 3000 b. C. up to nowadays. Barceló generously proposed a project aiming at valorising the Museum and its collections, in particular the department devoted to Faenza ceramic art of the 15th and 16th centuries, that is the golden age of our maiolica, when the term “faience” spread all over the world just to name and define the art of maiolica. Thus this project proposes a dialogue between the past and the present, taking care and respecting the great history of a territory that has raised ceramic art to its heritage and cultural identity.
