Depero New Depero

Fortunato Depero, pioniere dell'arte totale e fondatore a Rovereto dell'omonimo museo futurista, è protagonista di una grande mostra che esplora la modernità delle sue sperimentazioni e l'influenza delle sue ricerche negli ambiti dell'arte, della moda, del design e del fumetto dagli anni Settanta ad oggi. Esposti circa 500 lavori tra opere, disegni, mobili, oggetti, manifesti, fotografie, libri e riviste; una decina di video e film realizzati negli ultimi venti anni; fumetti e oggetti di design, oltre ai famosi bozzetti pubblicitari Campari.

Cinque sezioni compongono lo scenografico allestimento: "Ricostruzioni", con i numerosi rifacimenti delle insolite creazioni di Depero per il teatro; "Effetto Depero", in cui emergono i grandi nomi del design italiano che si sono apertamente ispirati all'artista trentino; "America", dove la storia e l'opera di Depero vengono raccontate attraverso più recenti produzioni audiovisive; "Museo", realizzata con i documenti e le pubblicazioni provenienti dall'Archivio del '900; "Conservazione/Educazione", che valorizza i progetti portati avanti negli anni dal Mart nell'ambito del restauro e della mediazione culturale.

The word new in the title of this volume represents Fortunato Depero's predisposition to innovation and the continuous transformation of his ideas, but also the influence he was able to offer both to designers of the eighties - above all Ettore Sottsass and Alessandro Mendini - and to New Futurist artists - Abate, Innocente, Lodola, Postal and Plumcake - who wisely mix Futurism, Pop Art and Kitsch.
The Depero effect can also be seen in artists such as Ugo Nespolo and Matteo Thun, who give life to effective Deperian advertising reworkings for the merchandising of the Campari company, as well as in avant-garde comics with designers such as Echaurren, Giacon, Carpinteri, who starting from the eighties have resumed - often ironically - the stylistic features of Depero.
In the 2000s, interest in films and videos grew - often centered on the exemplary life of the artist from Rovereto, which has been reconstructed thanks to the documents kept in the Depero collection - which allow in-depth research work, as in the case of Il sogno di Alberto (2011), a video installation on four screens directed by N! 03, Depero, Rovereto, New York e altre storie (2015) by Nello Correale, and finally New York film vissuto from 2020, conceived by the Istituto Barlumen specifically for the exhibition.
