Pietro Costa, /ri.tràt.ti/ /ˈpôrˌtrāts/, a cura di Chiara Spangaro, presenta per la prima volta al pubblico la selezione dei ritratti eseguiti dall'artista tra il 2018 e il 2022. La mostra valorizza il legame dell’artista con la città di Prato, dove ha lavorato al primo ritratto di famiglia - Gori Family Portrait, (2019) che attraversa tre generazioni a partire dal patriarca Giuliano Gori, fondatore della Fattoria di Celle, storico collezionista e mecenate pratese. In mostra saranno presenti anche altri ritratti che raffigurano singoli e nuclei familiari, come quelli di padre-figlio Sandro e Gianni Veronesi e di altri cittadini pratesi e non. Le opere sono una selezione più aggiornata della serie bloodworks, che l’artista ha intrapreso dalla fine degli anni ottanta e che indaga la ricerca dell’identità tra arte e scienza, il concetto di ritratto fisico e biologico e la rappresentazione dell’io tra unicità e comunità. Le opere sono eseguite con il sangue del soggetto ritratto che viene utilizzato come pigmento tra due fogli di mylar.
The book, edited by Chiara Spangaro, presents the selection of portraits produced by the artist Pietro Costa between 2003 and 2022, using blood and photography as his media. In the portraits he develops the research already undertaken since the late Eighties in the Bloodworks series, investigating the theme of identity between art and science, the concept of physical and biological portrait, the representation of the self between uniqueness and community.
The works show his study on the representation of the single subject, the family, and the group, and update his artistic practice widening to choral portraits in 2018, when he began the series of Family Portraits with the first nucleus of eight subjects spanning three different generations.
