Tomaso Binga

Inaugura venerdì 16 settembre la mostra "Tomaso Binga. Parole abitate", a cura di Raffaella perna e dedicata all'artista, poetessa e performer Bianca Pucciarelli Menna (Salerno 1931, vive e lavora a Roma), che nella sua carriera ha utilizzato in modo provocatorio uno pseudonimo maschile con l'intento di mettere a nudo il privilegio maschile a livello sia sociale che artistico. Il progetto, pensato in modo site-specific per gli spazi della galleria, si sviluppa attorno al tema del corpo, del linguaggio, e dell'identità, proponendo un dialogo continuo tra alcuni lavori degli anni Settanta ed altre sue più recenti creazioni, per far emergere una linea di continuità omogenea presente nella ricerca artistica di Binga. Tra le opere esposte, le recenti serie Alfabeto poetico monumentale, Alpha Symbol e ArteNatura, affiancate da sculture in polistirolo tra cui Piedi (1973) e Congiunte separate (1973).

La mostra è realizzata in continuità con il programma di promozione di artiste e fotografe italiane avviato nel 2015 dalla galleria Frittelli arte contemporanea con la mostra Altra misura. Arte, fotografia e femminismo in Italia negli anni Settanta, curata anch’essa da Raffaella Perna, attiva nel sostegno di mostre in musei e fondazioni pubblici e privati che promuovono l’arte di artiste italiane.

L'esposizione rientra nel più ampio programma della Florence Art Week, dal 16 al 24 settembre 2022, che vede in campo vari progetti espositivi diffusi in diverse e importanti realtà fiorentine.

Over forty years after the presentation of Alfabetiere murale (Mural alphabet, 1976), the artist, performer, and visual poet Tomaso Binga, stage name of Bianca Pucciarelli (Salerno, 1931), returns to explore the relationships between body, speech, and gender identity in Alfabeto poetico monumentale (Poetic monumental alphabet, 2019), a project around which this volume, curated by Raffaella Perna, in collaboration with Frittelli Arte Contemporanea Gallery, revolves. Linked to the ideas developed by the feminist movements of the 1970s, Binga’s Alfabeto poetico monumentale celebrates the power of women to take back their language and bodies, to think of themselves, and represent themselves as active subjects of history through an alternative idea of a monument. The book offers a vast selection of works, from the Polistirolo (Polystyrenes) and the Scritture viventi (Living writings) of the 1970s to the recent AlphaSymbol and ArteNatura series, and is enriched by a selection of critical writings and archive photographs that sheds light on the artist’s early career.
