Niobe e i suoi figli allo specchio

Dal 15 novembre 2022 al 12 marzo 2023, nella Sala della Niobe degli Uffizi, la mostra Niobe e i suoi figli allo specchio a cura di Andrea Bruciati propone un inedito confronto tra i due più celebri gruppi scultorei dedicati al mito di Niobe: quello degli Uffizi e quello delle Villæ di Tivoli.

Grazie ad una collaborazione tra le Gallerie degli Uffizi, Villa Adriana e Villa d’Este, la mostra ha lo scopo di creare per la prima volta un dialogo visivo tra i due complessi scultorei. L’uccisione dei figli della tragica protagonista del racconto mitologico è rappresentata dalle tredici celebri statue di epoca romana, oggi conservate nell’omonima sala in Galleria. Ad esse ne vengono affiancate altre nove, provenienti da un gruppo scultoreo recentemente rinvenuto a Ciampino, in un’ampia vasca prossima al settore termale di un’antica villa nella periferia di Roma, e attualmente conservato nel Santuario di Ercole Vincitore a Tivoli, parte dell’Istituto Villa Adriana e Villa d’Este.

The new catalogue, born from the analyzes related to the exhibition project Tell me you don’t want to die: the myth of Niobe, intends to update the declinations of the myth in its main sites in the light of the exhibition Niobe and her children in the mirror. The sculptural complex of the VILLÆ of Tivoli at the Uffizi. The sculptural group found in Villa Adriana, recently restored, the decorations of the Grotto of Diana in Villa d’Este and the Niobid complex of the Sanctuary of Hercules Victor constitute precious testimonies for understanding, through the relevance of the tragic and mythological tradition, the immanent drama of the human condition according to an epistemic scheme projected towards the future.
