Eva Fàbregas

Devouring Lovers

Berlin, Hamburger Bahnhof – Nationalgalerie der Gegenwart
dal 6 Luglio 2023 al 7 Gennaio 2024

The exhibition

From 06.07.2023 to 07.01.2024, the Hamburger Bahnhof – Nationalgalerie der Gegenwart in Berlin hosts the exhibition dedicated to Eva Fàbregas: the artist's largest solo exhibition to date that expands the boundaries of sculpture, inviting visitors to a sensual, spatial experience.

Curated by Anna-Catharina Gebbers, curator at the Hamburger Bahnhof – Nationalgalerie der Gegenwart, the exhibition displays the new work commission to the Spanish artist Eva Fàbregas. Amorphous, flesh-colored sculptures and a sound installation transform the museum's railway station architecture, which is characterized by industrial iron girders, into an organically grown space.
The soft and fleshy objects, characteristic of the artist's work, spread out throughout the entire space, from the sides, from the ceiling, and through the metal structures. The mix of sculpture and sound reorients the visitors’ experience of the former train station hall. The borders between technically generated, and the human and non-human worlds become blurred. Visitors find themselves immersed in this organic-technical environment.

The exhibition will be accompanied by a bilingual German-English publication by Silvana Editoriale.

The catalogue

“Eva Fàbregas. Devouring Lovers” introduces the work of Barcelona-based artist Eva Fàbregas on the occasion of her largest solo exhibition to date. Eva Fàbregas takes over the historical hall of the Hamburger Bahnhof with a monumental, site-specific installation that expands the boundaries of sculpture, inviting visitors to a sensual, spatial experience. Biomorphous sculptures transform the museum’s architecture, which is characterized by industrial iron girders, into an organically grown space, blurring the borders between technically generated, and the human and non-human worlds.
This is the second in a series of publications accompanying solo exhibitions of contemporary artists at Hamburger Bahnhof – Nationalgalerie der Gegenwart. It comprises a curatorial text by Anna-Catharina Gebbers, a comprehensive interview with the artist, and essay contributions by Paul B. Preciado and Daisy Lafarge situating Eva Fàbregas’s work within a larger context.
