Abstract

Pierre Coulibeuf is a film-maker and visual artist. In 1987, he began to make experimental fictions, which skilfully invest the sphere of art and in which changes of identity, doublings and metamorphoses affect the universes and artists inspiring his works.
In this catalogue, the artist describes a world made up of “obscure signs and strange moving figures”, a world that has become fable. The various realities of art—painting, photography, film, literature, music or dance—are implicated in his works, especially in Dédale (2009), a film-installation consisting of four moving pictures and a series of photographs (commissioned by the Iberê Camargo Foundation, Porto Alegre, Brazil).

“The mental dynamic that innervates the film work, recomposed in the exhibition space, sets the realities of art in motion, scrambles the codes and muddles the boundaries, giving rise to a different reality, unstable and open to the viewer’s combinatorial activity” (P. Coulibeuf).
