Abstract

Arrigo Poz was born in Castello di Porpetto (Udine) in 1929. His works range from frescoes to mosaics, from stained glass to works in oil and tempera, always produced with an absolute sensitivity to colour. The artist is an unparalled witness to Italian and European twentieth-century history seen from the depth of his Friulian origins with a vigorous and expressionistic realism, never strident but respectful of the human condition, with a clear awareness of the inevitable pain of life and with an equally strong belief in the power of hope and in the majesty of life.
The 23 outstanding essays that make up the catalogue of the exhibition paint a comprehensive and faithful portrait of the Master and bear the signatures of the eminent specialists and scholars from Italian Universities and authoritative institutions as the Gabinetto Disegni e Stampe of the Uffizi in Florence and Villa I Tatti.
The artist's itinerary is a journey through History, Social History, Art and Faith, a tour where beauty concides with the Christian faith and faith with the soul of a people, who, from the heart of Friuli, watch in silence but seeply aware the ethical and social events that mark the European twentieth century.
