Abstract

Giovanni Lokar, a well-known entrepreneur from Trieste, has for decades been an enthusiastic collector of Italian and European porcelain. This volume offers a general catalogue of the Italian section, and bears witness to the knowledge, passion and curiosity of the collector.
Giovanni Lokar’s interest in early eighteenth-century porcelain is directed in particular to the Venetian manufactories, to the pioneering Vezzi as well as to the Hewelcke, Cozzi, and Antonibon. From these he has some rather rare pieces that can compete with the more celebrated porcelain produced in Austria and Germany. Lokar has also explored the work of less well-known Italian factories, such as Vicentini dal Giglio and Fontebasso.
Ginori porcelain is well represented, and examples of the late production at Vinovo and of Jacques Boselly of Savona further enrich the collection.
