The name "AES + F" is formed from the initials of four artists associated in the same production: the couple of architects Tatiana Arzamasova (1955) and Lev Evzovich (1958) and the graphic designer Evgeny Svyatsky (1957), as well as fashion photographer Vladimir Fridkes (1956) who joined them in 1996.
Photography has therefore taken a predominant place in their artistic expression, which then broadened to an increasingly virtuoso use of video and multimedia. The common thread of AES + F's work consists of the manipulation of glamorous imagery from the worlds of fashion, cinema or advertising, used to revisit an imaginary related to classical literary works or ancient art. Their video installations are often made from individual digital photographs taken in the studio in the presence of several hundred models. Through meticulous editing, these images are edited to produce sequences marked by slow and mannered movements which contribute to the very particular general atmosphere of their works.
By means of various photographic editing processes, the artists of AES + F present a manipulated, strange and disturbing world.
