The catalogue raisonné of Carlo Battaglia (1933-2005) is a key tool for any knowledge of one of the most significant and active artists on the Italian cultural scene as from the 1970s. Initially an unquestioned leader of "Analytical Painting" or "Painting Painting", he detached himself ideally from this movement and withdrew into a sort of creative solitude that lasted another twenty-five years and of which his obsession with the sea, which became the sole subject of his painting, is at the same time the cause and effect, indicator and result.
Compiled by Marco Meneguzzo and Simone Pallotta for the Carlo Battaglia Foundation, the catalogue includes approximately four hundred major paintings and large works on paper abundantly illustrated and accompanied by a wealth of materials including reprints of all the artist's most significant writings as well as an exhaustive art-historical and critical study by Marco Meneguzzo.
