Fourteen masters of Italian cinema exhibit the drawings, paintings, visual notes, and photographs – some of them for the first time – that illuminate and give testament to the creative journey made during the ideation and realization of their films.
The different approaches underlie different conceptions of the creative work, which implies taking different stands, setting up different production economies, and setting goals more or less markedly oriented to research and experimentation – all of which is likely to resurface in the actual films.
De/Signs can tell the time of imagination before or after shooting and editing as well as the journeys of the mind that may depart from a sign, a dream, or an intuition. From time to time and from medium to medium, these can enhance further explorations and outcomes.
