Abstract

Almost thirty-eight years after his death, many essays and papers have been published on Luigi Di Sarro (1941-1979), as a man and an artist. Many interpretations have been offered and many hypotheses have been made on his work. It is therefore hard to think that a new interpretation can be provided; anyway, this is not the purpose of this volume, which aims at examining in depth some of the aspects of his approach to culture, to the surrounding art system and to his own working method.
Looking at Di Sarro, we find ourselves dealing with a researcher, with all the resulting peculiarities that such a definition entails. His works – drawings, paintings, sculptures and pictures – reveal him as an artist continuosly in progress. Di Sarro never gave final answers to others’ and his own questions; rather, he posed new ones. He had an empirical, long-range experimental approach that came from his scientific background, and a lively personality, constantly in motion on the physical and intellectual level.
