Abstract

On 1 February 1986, the exhibition Esplorazioni sulla via Emilia opened in Reggio Emilia, a project that brought together photography, literature, music and cinema around the theme of the historic road that runs ‘from the river to the sea’.
Today, thirty years later, “European Photography” is taking inspiration from the wealth of ideas brought forward by that exhibition, launching a new visual reflection on the Via Emilia as well as on the concepts and themes connected to roads, places of transit and borders.
Three decades have passed, during which the world has changed as much as have our ways of representing it: globalization and the digitalization of the world, and so also of our ways of trying to understand and render it. This edition of “European Photography” unites celebration of the historic exhibition with the search for new interpretations of the present.
