Abstract

Paolo Monti (Novara, 1908 – Milan, 1982) was the most important Italian photographer of his generation. He was a master of his craft and a major influence on artists such as Gianni Berengo Gardin, Cesare Colombo and Fulvio Roiter.
Alongside his well-known projects documenting architecture and cities, portraits of artists and of his niece Meme, this book critically presents, for the first time, many previously unpublished materials. The scientific investigation and cataloguing of the Monti Archive have shed light on one of the most fascinating Italian artists and intellectuals of the second half of the twentieth century.
