Abstract

The sculpture of Antonio Ievolella (Benevento, 1952) has an archaic heart that is capable of continuously reinventing itself by dialoguing with history and space. The Ghirbe (wineskins), in particular, are a prominent motif of his poetics: the anthropomorphic body, the capacity of the womb, the manifest symbolism make them a metaphor for art.
This book presents the two gigantic Ghirbe conceived and made for the church of Santa Maria Incoronata in Naples, formerly exhibited in the forecourt of Padua railway station, on the occasion of the anthological show of works by Ievolella, which are now positioned definitely in the Cittadella dello Studente of Padua University.
