In 1986, in the Val di Sella, near Borgo Valsugana in Trentino, Arte Sella was set up with the aim of promoting art in a natural setting. As visitors walk along a path in the woods, they will see artworks made of natural materials, ephemeral and often destined to disappear. Indeed many of these works have effectively vanished, returning to nature and living on only in photographs. But the work of each artist has helped to strengthen the Arte Sella project, to respond to the challenge of working delicately in, and for the bene t of, nature. Over the years, the presence of Arte Sella’s artworks has brought out the beauty of the setting and visitors will be struck by the reactions and emotions that the artworks trigger.
More than 200 artists from many countries have worked with Arte Sella: Claudio Costa, Nils-Udo, Giuliano Mauri, Patrick T. Dougherty, Dominique Bailly, Chris Drury, Alan Sonfist, Marinette Cueco, François Lelong, Roberto Conte, Aeneas Wilder, Luc Schuiten, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Arne Quinze and many others who are mentioned in this book.
