Abstract

This book describes the genesis, objectives, expectations and meaning of Eva Frapiccini’s artistic project called Il Pensiero che non diventa Azione avvelena l’Anima (Words without Action poison the Soul) that faces the subject of lawfulness. It recognizes creative practices with the important aspect of generating new viewpoints and unprecedented considerations regarding contemporary history.
During her research path regarding figures who have marked the period of struggles against the Sicilian Mafia between the 1970s and 1990s, Eva Frapiccini focused on the intimate dimension that surfaced in the accounts reporting on the work of magistrates, journalists, trade unionists and Police inspectors, or even citizens who spent their lives in the war against the Mafia. Fine art photography provides documentation involving the images, notes, agendas, investigation reports that have been discovered in public and private archives, as an outline of the thoughts and actions substantiating the single paths of struggle. Therefore the work of the artist is an archive-in-progress that uses an accessible, available and captivating installation in inviting the public to delve into the everyday aspects of the single paths – hence recovering their memory and dignity.
