The way out of what you call a labyrinth is the painting.
The act of creation (for example, the act of painting a picture), above all others, the most similar to the death and resurrection of Christ – without, however, necessarily noticing the artist and his or her sin. When I paint, I am aware of death coming on me, whilst I am deeply aware of the certainty taken on by this death, spatula stroke after spatula stroke, within the resurrection embodied by the painting – that is, forgiveness.
