Ennio Calabria

Sixty years after his first solo exhibition, and nearly three decades after the last, extensive Roman retrospective, this volume honours Ennio Calabria, who played a leading role in Italian and European visionary and existential figuration. Over the course of his long career, Calabria has given life to works infused with a complex, restless pictorial vitality and brimming with an imaginative force that blends with lucid philosophical and anthropological speculation, but above all capable of giving image to the process of change in our society by almost prophetically pointing out its possible future metamorphoses. A concept of art seen as social good – with its own radical, cognitive and ethical value – has prevailed throughout Calabria’s entire artistic journey.
