Born in Marina di Massa in 1901, Nella Marchesini moved to Turin during World War I. She belonged to the circle of young intellectuals around Piero Gobetti and his magazines. Felice Casorati’s first student, she considered painting the “north star,” a constant devotion, harmonized with the life of affections, a practice of reflection and storytelling, based on the dialogue between art history and autobiography.
This publication on the artist, with critical essays by Giorgina Bertolino and Alessandro Botta and a rich section of documents, gathers together paintings and drawings that recreate the stages of her practice and participation in exhibitions.
