Abstract

That of Fabio Nicotera is a world on hold, a frontier-like world, yet filled with priceless wonder and enchantment. A painter and sculptor with a profound, inevitable vocation, the artist cherishes an un- usual reserve that keeps him from ever showing the personal and existential impression underlying each brushstroke or virtuoso moulding. By using glues, resins, glass and other artificial materials in his paintings and clay, nails, plastic bowls, vinyl glues and moss in his sculptures, and by leaving vast power to any in-progress mishaps, the artist creates amniotic spaces or wombs wherein the unspent vitality of colour – either dense and compact like a frozen lake or as clear as a lm of water, or else glazed, opalescent, translucent or mysteriously opaque – reigns supreme. Thus his works are lands of endless potential, where anything and everything can still occur – whether in a joyous or dramatic fashion. (Gabriele Simongini)
