Il voltar pagina della Corona sveva. Incontri e convergenze negli insediamenti ‘federiciani’ della Sicilia ionica

L’intervento intende mettere a fuoco il versante siciliano – in particolare quello ionico – della committenza federiciana (post 1234), ripercorrendo le orme dei precedenti approcci storiografici e rilanciando in un’ottica europea, piuttosto che mediterranea, i prodotti dell’architettura fortificata e del suo corredo plastico. Segni di una mobilità anche esterna al Regno, i laboratori ionici si ergono a testa di ponte di un inedito linguaggio tutto interno alla Corona sveva, che dagli anni Quaranta del XIII secolo risale, nelle dinamiche dello scambio artistico, la penisola, giungendo in tempi brevi a invadere contesti geografici di prestigio, tra cui il Patrimonium Petri, la Toscana e il Veneto.

The Tabula Rasa of the Hohenstaufen Crown. Interactions and Artistic Confluences in the ‘Federician’ Castles of Eastern Sicily

This study intends to focus on the artistic and architectural patronage of Frederick II in Sicily (post 1234) – specifically in the Ionic land – retracing the previous historiographic approaches and proposing a reading from an European and not only Mediterranean perspective of the forms of military architecture and its architectural sculpture. The architectural and sculptural features elaborated in the Ionian buildings, a true bridgehead of the still unknown language of the Hohenstaufen Crown, show a diffusion also outside of the Kingdom of Sicily. Beginning from the Forties of the Thirteenth Century, they spread on the Italian peninsula influencing in a short time prestigious geographical areas including the Patrimoium Petri, Tuscany, and Veneto.
