Published to accompany the Gropius Bau's exhibition Lee Mingwei: 禮 Li, Gifts and Rituals, this full-colour catalogue examines the influences, ideas and themes of the artist Lee Mingwei (*1964, Taichung, TW, lives and works in Paris, FR and New York, US).
The artist's own voice is present in the book via a series of original Artist Statements. A selection of Eyewitness Reports capture the experiences of participants who have encountered Lee's artworks since the 1990s. The Reader section reproduces texts that expand on the feelings that Lee's works invoke, and which guided the curatorial process of thinking anew about acts of hosting and art's ability to be a transformative gift.
