From the dialogue and friendship between the artist Nino Rollo, atheist but convinced of the salvific value of sculpture, a friar of the Franciscan community, Father Rosario, and an enlightened municipal administration, that of Lequile, near Lecce, the Monument to Saint Francis was born in 1983, a large stone sculpture-sign, a symbol of civic and sacral values.
The volume photographically documents the implementation of the sculpture and illustrates its meaning through a writing by the artist – a “stone sculptor”, as he liked to define himself.
