Gea Casolaro (Rome, 1965) began imagining Mare Magnum Nostrum after the great shipwreck that happened close to the coast of Lampedusa the 3rd October 2013, in which more than 350 people lost their lives, wondering how the sea shared by so many populations can instead be a place of a so tragic separation. The participatory art project, curated by Leonardo Regano and carried out thanks to the support of the 8th edition of the Italian Council, developed thanks to the collaboration of the people who gave their photos of the shores of our sea: photos of holidays, departures, tragedies, condemnation, workers, photos of all types and periods.
In 2021 the work became part of the permanent collection of the Museo Nazionale di Ravenna.
