Abstract

Among the Australian aborigines, the territorial, cultural, historical and sacred imagery is called "the Dreamtime" or more simply the Dream. The artistic expression of this imagination goes through painting, whose colors come from the earth, the ocher earth.
After the tribute to the small Indian tea bowl of 1001 Cups and the journey with clay in the myths and the artistic creation of Inspired Clay, Painting Grounds is interested in ocher and its relation to painting. Artists from radically different cultures, Aboriginal, Middle Eastern, Chinese and European, each realize their ancestral or personal Dreamtime with this same original base of color. Other means are also shared: by painters, an art paper from the Arches brand; and by ceramists, porcelain paper made by the artists themselves. Thus, while celebrating the universality of the artistic gesture and the diversity of the art works, the Painting Grounds project brings into play the subtle and always complex relationship between the notions of tradition and modernity.
