On the occasion of the 120th birthday anniversary, this publication celebrates Carlo Levi—an intellectual of extraordinary eclecticism and an even more extraordinary ability to dive deep into the depths of reality—who laid the groundwork for a discussion, today relevant more than ever, on the North/South dichotomy beyond economic and anthropological lines. This book gathers 30 paintings, some from the GAM of Turin collections, centered around the overall geography of Levi’s existence. These works bear witness to the artist’s different stylistic developments, which began early in his career from a very “objective” form of painting to then head toward a more expressionistic style and finally align itself with post-World War II modern realism.
