The title of the book, L’esca (The bait), refers to the love affair that develops between collector, artwork and artist. Bearing witness to that feeling are the works gathered here from the private collection of Franca Maria Volpin and Valeriano D’Urbano, selected by Caterina Riva among those created by artists who emerged on the Italian scene in the 1990s. This publication reenacts the dialogue between the exhibited works and includes audio files playable via QR code that, through curious anecdotes of the two collectors, narrate their encounters with various artists and gallerists. The text by Simone Menegoi addresses the specificity of this private collection of contemporary art within the Italian context.
