Abstract

The research of Davide Balliano (Turin, 1983) operates on the thin dividing line between painting and sculpture, addressing existential themes such as the man identity in the technology era and his relationship with the sublime through an austere and minimal language of abstract geometries, in strong dialogue with the surrounding architecture.
Through a practice that the artist himself defines as monastic, austere and meditative, Balliano's meticulous paintings appear at first glance neat and precise. A closer look reveals however scratches and abrasions that show the surface underneath the layers of paint, almost as if it were the decaying facade of abandoned modernist intentions.
In addition to his pictorial artworks, Davide Balliano is also known for his sculptures in which he translates his pictorial-visual vocabulary into three-dimensional objects, often made of steel, ceramic or wood.

The volume presents a wide selection of artworks that offer a complete overview of his artistic production and is furthermore enriched with a conversation between Osman Can Yerebakane and the artist and a critical essay by Michele Robecchi.
