Abstract

Light, slender, fluctuating, sinuous, rippled, soft, hieratic, diaphanous, the artworks of Giuliano Giuliani conquer the beating heart of ancient Rome, the Forum. Created in travertine, the main stone used in Roman architecture and the stone of the city from which the artist comes, Ascoli Piceno, his sculptures take shape and feeling in the Colle San Marco quarry, capturing the essence and evoking the charm of the sweet suspended Marche landscape between the sea and the blue mountains.
Immersed in the ruins, they bring to life the intuition of a pure time, out of history, in the overwhelming comparison of the immanent and partial images of contingency, in a lyrical, spiritual, luminous transfiguration of the absolute. Ancient and contemporary thus merge in a mythical space, where the past becomes differently intelligible in the dialectic it establishes with the present.
