Abstract

This visual atlas of Bestiario della Terra, the artistic project sponsored in 2022 by the Associazione Reggio Parma Festival (made up of Fondazione Teatro Regio di Parma, Fondazione Teatro Due, Fondazione I Teatri, the City of Parma and the City of Reggio Emilia), presents a complex, visionary meta-work by Yuval Avital. In this project, the artist combines and connects different artistic languages: sound, performance, painting, drawing, video, and “iconosonic” installations. The various stages of the project unfolded in different places and venues around Parma and Reggio Emilia, creating an intense dialogue with the local area. The ‘atlas’ included the following chapters: Anatomie Squisite, in dialogue with the Spallanzani Collection, Musei Civici, Reggio Emilia; Il Canto dello Zooforo, Casa del Suono, Parma; Cadavre Exquis, Magazzino Farmacie Comunali Riunite, Reggio Emilia; Lessico Animale: Prologo, APE Parma Museo, Parma; Membrane, Cloisters of San Pietro, Reggio Emilia; Mostrario I, Teatro Regio, Parma; Mostrario II, Teatro Due, Parma; Mostrario III, Teatro Municipale Valli, Reggio Emilia; and Persona (sponsored by Parma 360 in collaboration with Reggio Parma Festival), Palazzo Marchi, Parma.
The project was brought about through the efforts of over 500 people – the staffs of the institutions and cultural associations involved, art professionals, artisans, technicians, dancers, singers, musicians, and performers – and drew over 20,000 viewers to the events.
