The catalogue traces the long career of British artist Peter Blake (Dartford, 1932), referred to as the father of British Pop Art and also well known for creating the covers of several music albums, such as, for example, The Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band (1967), designed with Jann Haworth. The catalogue reproduces more than 160 works dated from 1956 to 2023: from the early abstract works to the poetic and sophisticated collages of Joseph Cornell’s Holiday series, from the sculptures and installations made from salvaged materials, to the last amusing Studies for ‘Party’ portraits, works with which Blake expresses his own humor, typically English and slightly irreverent, characteristic also of nonsense, which originated in the great tradition of Edward Lear and Lewis Carroll.
