The catalogue describes the history of violinmaking in Lombardy in the twentieth century, the history of the International School of Violinmaking, the rebirth of Cremonese Violinmaking and the description of some authors of the musical twentieth century in Lombardy. The following essay deals with the cello school in Lombardy during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries and in particular the period from Piatti to Janigro. The first part of the book concludes with an essay about Bissolotti and Morassi, considered the two main figures of contemporary Cremonese violinmaking, a bridge between past and future. The final part of the volume publishes many illustrations of great violinmaking families: the Antoniazzis, the Bisiachs and other makers that characterized the musical background of the twentieth century in Milan, Cremona and Mantova.
