Abstract

This publication testifies to an atypical Underground Construction conceived, planned and built autonomously by Lucrezia De Domizio Durini at Bolognano, a tiny village in Abruzzo by now well known in international artistic circles fot its cultural and environmental initiatives. A rega! place where the German Master, Joseph Beuys, lived during the last fifteen years of his life, receiving Honorary Citizenship and conceiving the colossal Difesa della Natura operation. The hypogeum has been built in the famous Piantagione Paradise and it mirrors Beuys's Studio which stands above it. Readers well informed in architecture will find in the detailed documentation-environmental and geological reports, executive architectural and engineering projects, technical reports on the plants installed, all fruit of the most rigorous professionalism-a unique and essential account of the technical features of the structure, based on the most sophisticated technology. Alongside this, distinguished intellectuals examine from their different viewpoints the cultural motivations behind the Body Volume of this architectural structure, which is invisible from the exterior while its interior is ready to welcome the healthy forces of those working for radical change, understood as an improvement in the current systems of art, aesthetics, society and politics.
